Le jeu de caractères "ISO-8859-1"

Le jeu de caractères "ISO-8859-1" (communément appelé Latin-1) est supporté par le HTML. Il couvre les caractères rencontré dans de nombreux languages européens en dehors de l'Anglais. Cependant, les différences entre les caractères supportés par les différences des locales des claviers ne permettent pas que des caractères spéciaux soient tapés directement dans un document HTML si l'on désire que le document soit portable, quelque soit la locale.
Ainsi, le HTML supporte deux mécanismes d'insertion de ces caractères spéciaux. Tout le jeu de caractères peut être inclu dans un document HTML, en faisant référence à leur numéro d'inclusion dans le jeu de caractères. Certains d'entre eux, communement usités, ont un nom plus facilement mémorisable.

Exemple: Ó and Ó

Voilà deux réference au même caractère - Ó - mais normalement Ó est plus facile à mémoriser.
